Global Express XRS

Bombardier built three aircraft around the same 519 in cabin, and the Express XRS is the one that gets it off the ground soonest. Its 6,015 ft takeoff requirement is 130 ft under the Global 6500 and 285 ft under the Global 6000 — a margin that decides whether a given airport is on the itinerary or merely near it. That matters more than the figure suggests, because the airports worth departing from are rarely the ones with the longest runways. London City, Lugano, the Alpine fields in season: the constraint is almost never the distance to the destination. It is the strip you are leaving from, at weight, on a warm afternoon. The XRS answers that question without asking the charterer to accept a smaller cabin in exchange, which is the trade most aircraft in this class quietly impose.

What arrives at the far end is the same aircraft the rest of the family offers. Twelve to sixteen seats in a cabin 74 in high and 95 in wide, 195 cu ft of baggage across 20 bags, and 6,000 nm of reach — enough for London–Los Angeles without a stop. The XRS is no longer in production, and for a charterer that reads as availability rather than obsolescence: the airframes are in service, the operators know them, and the acquisition tier sits below the aircraft that replaced it. It lands in 2,800 ft, so the runway argument holds at both ends of the sector rather than only at the departure. For a routing that begins and finishes somewhere awkward, that symmetry is worth more than a few hundred nautical miles of additional reach.
