Legacy 500

Twelve is the figure that separates the Legacy 500 from everything else in this class. Every other super midsize we charter stops at nine, and the difference is not three more seats pressed into the same tube: the cabin is 328 in long, second only to the Praetor 600's 331 in, and the hold takes 155 cu ft across sixteen bags. A twelve-seat layout in a cabin of that length is a working arrangement rather than a maximum-density one. Range is 3,125 nm and top speed 466 kt — mid-class figures that keep the aircraft honest about what it is. This is a capacity aircraft, not a distance one, and it does not pretend otherwise.

The cross-section is Embraer's standard across the family — 82 in wide and 72 in high, shared with the Legacy 450 and the Praetor 600 — so what separates the three is length and what the length is spent on. In the 500 it is spent on people. Twelve aboard a three-hour sector is a materially different proposition from nine aboard the same one, and an aircraft that absorbs the difference without a second airframe or a second leg solves a problem that speed does not. Production has ended, which caps how many are in circulation, and those that are tend to sit with operators running group and corporate work rather than principal-and-party charters.
